Ferrari launches 2010 F1 car

Ferrari unveiled F10, their 2010 title challenger, today at Maranello.

The major points made by Luca di Montezemolo are:

  • F1 should be a test base for state-of-the-art technology, where  innovations are developed to go into cars
  • F1 needs credibility between executives and judicial forces
  • Schumacher wouldn’t be with Mercedes if Ferrari was allowed 3rd car
  • A possibility for Valentino Rossi exists if he wishes to race in F1

Chief designer Nikolas Tombazis added that F10 is totally revised compared to the previous one, F60

Team’s engine chief Luca Marmorini is confident that team has made progress on both fuel consumption and engine reliability issues for new season by effectively using its partnership with Shell

A record three million people logged on to watch the Ferrari launch!!

Looking back: Some classic Brazilian GPs

In this blog I will only concentrate on races after 2000 as most of them were action packed.

2001

Rainmaster Schumacher is beaten in the rain. Schumacher was overtaken twice in the races by Montoya and Coulthard and both taking place at the “Senna S” corner of the track.

2003

A controversial race decided by a court case. Fernando Alonso failed to slow for the waved yellow flags, and hit Webber’s tyres at full speed on the 55th lap. Race was subsequently red flagged, ending the race immediately for safety concerns. Now, the confusion begins….

2006

This race was first of the three continuous seasons when the drivers championship was decided here. Fernando Alonso won the WDC.  Michael Schumacher finished fourth in his last race despite starting the race in 10th position and having a punctured tyre during the race. This was one of his best drives.

2007

Lewis Hamilton was slowed by a gearbox problem early in the race and could only finish seventh. In the process he lost a seven point lead over Raikkonen and losing the championship to him.

2008

Light rain began to fall on lap 63. Massa pitted on lap 67, meaning that all of the frontrunners, with the exception of Glock, were now on intermediate tyres. The rain began to fall heavily on lap 69, as Hamilton ran wide, which allowed Vettel to take fifth position. As Massa crossed the finish line to win the race; confusion reigned as TV showed Ferrari garage celebrating but it was found out soon that Hamilton finished the race in fifth position, clinching the WDC. Vettel and Hamilton passed Glock in the final corners as his dry-weather tyres slid on the wet track.

Looking back: Some classic Belgian GPs

1991

Schumacher emerged as a genuine potential star after his sensational qualifying performance. His race came to an early end after he burnt out the clutch at the start.

1995

One the most impressive drives of Schumacher’s career – holding off Hill for over a lap whilst on dry tyres on a wet track.

1998

One of the first races which i saw and with no less action than 13 of the 22 cars were damaged on the run down to Eau Rouge at the start and a red flag.

2000

Awesome race by Mika Hakkinen. Widely regarded as his greatest victory. Hakkinen double pass of Schumacher and Ricardo Zonta is one the best passes i have ever scene.

2007

Kimi holds the baton from Schumacher to become King of Spa.  He won this race for third time in a row and now in Ferrari .

Schumacher calls off return to F1

FailFans of Michael Schumacher will not like this news. Michael has called off his return to racing due to neck problem after the injuries he suffered earlier this year in bike crash.

“Yesterday evening, I had to inform Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo and team principal Stefano Domenicali that unfortunately I’m not able to step in for Felipe,” he said.

“I really tried everything to make that temporary comeback possible, however, much to my regret it didn’t work out. Unfortunately we did not manage to get a grip on the pain in the neck which occurred after the private F1-day in Mugello, even if medically or therapeutically we tried everything possible.”

“The consequences of the injuries caused by the bike-accident in February, fractures in the area of head and neck, unfortunately have turned out to be still too severe,” added Schumacher.

“That is why my neck cannot stand the extreme stresses caused by Formula 1 yet. These are the clear results of the examinations we did on the course of the past two weeks and the final examination yesterday afternoon.

“As there were no improvements after the day in Mugello, I decided at short notice on Sunday to do that thorough examination already yesterday.

“I am disappointed to the core. I am awfully sorry for the guys of Ferrari and for all the fans which crossed fingers for me. I can only repeat that I tried everything that was within my power. All I can do now is to keep my fingers crossed for the whole team for the coming races.”

Luca Badoer will race for Ferrari at the European GP.
