F2 driver Henry Surtees dies after accident

18 year old Henry Surtees, son of former F1 champion John Surtees, died after a freak accident at Brands Hatch on Sunday. Surtees was hit on the head by a flying rear wheel of the car of Jack Clarke after he spun into the wall. Surtees was knocked unconscious in the accident and his car failed to negotiate the following Sheene Corner, running straight off the track and into the barrier. When I watched the video I couldn’t believe how unlucky this guy was. A split second either way, and he’d still be alive!

Surtees graduated to F2 this season from Formula Renault and had taken his first podium finish in the series with third place in Saturday’s race at Brands Hatch.

Fastformula sends its condolences to friends and family of Henry. RIP Henry
